Bathroom without a tub ok in rental?

Bathroom is long and narrow (5 feet x 15 feet) and we are thinking of removing tub and having a big tiled shower only.  Is this a mistake in a rental?  How important is it to have a tub?  Thanks!

those that say “don’t spend money on a rental” are right, but only up to a point. If you keep your unit in really fresh condition, you can charge a premium for it, assuming you are in a good neighborhood with good transportation etc. If you’re going to do it, why not go all in, furnish it and rent for corporate long term tenants or VRBO? I met some lovely gals recently from Crown Heights who use VRBO to rent their apartments to tourists and make great return on it. Of course it’s more work than a regular tenant. Just something to think about.

Depends on the renters you want to attract.  Yes, children use showers, but babies and toddlers don’t.  Many people never take a bath and are fine with no tub; others, including many women (moreso then men I know) like to take baths sometimes…they are good for backaches, cramps, and when you get home in the winter and are chilled and really need to warm up (which is exacerbated by wearing skirts, because your legs freeze) – which is especially useful when your apartment is not warm.  And if you have a big tub, it can be nice to take a bath with someone.  I’d never rent or buy a place without one.

I specialize in these jobs and have posted a similar question in the past.  The answers I received have been mixed.  Many people, not all, would prefer the more open space and storage capacity of a bathroom with shower only.  Children use my showers every day.  I install adjustable shower slide bars for them so they can adjust the head height as they grow.  My showers can be barrier-free too, more convenient as we get older.  Here, I will post a picture in the next post.

It is not worth it.  You only upgrade rentals if you think it will make more money. Never just spend money on a rental.
