Recommendations for companies to rebuild brick facade

Our stucco is badly cracked (water is getting in the apartments) and needs to be removed. Ideally we’d restore the original brickwork underneath, but it seems highly unlikely that it will be salvageable. We are therefore looking for a good company to rebuild our (four story) brick facade – preferably with bricks and craftsmanship consistent with the landmark district we adjoin.   I’ve tried to navigate through all the self-promotional and anonymous posts about facade specialists on the forum, but would appreciate some genuine recommendations from others who’ve been through this process (both recently and many years ago). I can 2nd the Jimmy Buscarella – Jabus reco, he did a front for us 20 years ago. Now if he would just cal us back we’d be really happy. In many cases what you refer to as stucco was applied ina way that ruins the finish surface of the brick underneath. Best is taking off the front layer of brick and sourcing antique brick that you like and replacing the front course. That way the pointing will match itself, and doesn’t have to match an existing, which it probably wouldn’t. I would wait until the old brick was off before worrying about whether there are structural problems. The inner courses are doing the heavy lifting structurally, and the surface may have separated.

HI, we’ve used Anthony the Mason, 347-307-4725.  He came recommended by the brwonstone community. He was able to create/match handmade bricks, since the original ones were no longer available.  We have had no water problems since his restoration.  He had done very similar jobs in brooklyn and manhattan, and we did contact his references.  Good luck

I used Jabus Construction for two masonry jobs recently. They are a pleasure to deal with and have been around for at least twenty years. Their number is 718-852-5364\. I bid the jobs out, they weren’t the cheapest, but I was glad that I used them.

Hi greenmt, is he contractor as well or has contractors who can do such work? Does an engineer have to take a look or a qualified mason is enough? Thanks I’m having similar work done.
