Need to fix the back wall of my house...
I have a leak on the back wall of my house. The likely culprit is a defect in the wall at the juncture where the fire escape is attached to the wall. I assume it’s to do with the hole through which the fire escaped is affixed, but I’m not absolutely sure. My roofer had a look, and he agrees that it’s likely to be the problem. Any suggestions on how to confrm or refute this diagnosis, and if it’s right, who should fix it? Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks

Get up on the fire escape with a hose and run it over the area you think is leaking. If you get water inside, bingo, if not, try working up the wall above the area you see moisture until you get results. Obviously the farther away you go, the longer you need to wait between soaking on the outside and evidence appearing on the inside. A mason is generally who you call to fix a wall (assuming it’s brick). Brownstone Authority is excellent.
