Facade Work Reference

My co-op is looking into having some facade work done – probably a complete resurfacing with some cornice work, but possibly less.  I’ve looked through the references that are listed in the facade & exterior forums, but has anyone worked with Roy D. Construction?  If so, how was your experience?  Thanks.

Also check on a house that was done 2 years ago, 5 years ago, etc. The company should be able to give you references. Many jobs look great right away…but start to fall apart in short order. It’s a huge job, and you don’t want to have to do it twice. Make sure the work holds up long term. After a terrible experience with Valaroso, we went with Edson, who I recommend highly.

Am I being too careful when I say:  hire an architect/engineer, do a survey, get a scope of work drawn up, THEN look for companies and send it out for bids, and hire a project manager? How big is your building?

I used Roy D to re-point the rear of my house and Jose Gonzales to redo my mrownstone facade.  I’d go with Jose any day.  His work is extraordinary.  Right now he’s working on two adjacent houses on South Elliott btwn Dekalb and Lafayette.  My house is a few doors down from them.  he’s done several others on the block.  Interestingly you can compare Roy D and Jose’s handiwork just by looking at 13 S Elliott and 15.  Roy D did 13 and Jose did 15.  They are identical houses.  if you think 13 looks better go with Roy.  If you think 15 looks better go with Jose.  As far as I can tell their prices are about the same.

One of my neighbors just had their crumbling facade redone by Roy D.  The project took quite a bit of time but ended up looking superb.  The finish color is great and the crew perfectly recreated exisiting detail both incised and curved.  I talked to a couple of the workers who seemed really admire the onwer and love working with him.  I’m planning on getting a bid from them to redo our place.
