Facade Restoration: Edson, Excellent Contracting or Brownstone Authority?

Hi everyone, We’re ready to move forward with out facade restoration (brownstone, cornice, stoop), and have received estimates from 3 companies: Edson, Excellent and J. Mos Brownstone Authority. Any first hand experience with any of these companies? All insights would be super useful. Also, any other top-quality (and, ideally, competitively priced) companies we should be considering? Thanks!

I used excellent for my brownstone and is very happy with their work. They addressed all my concerns and went the extra step to insure everything was done correctly. Excellent is not the cheapest, or the most expensive….but they are well worth it. I was recommended to them by my cousin who was having his facade redone in park slope. Before making your choice, make sure to visit a few of their projects…and if you can, speak with the owners about their experiences.

We also used Edson after a disastrous experience with another firm. This was two years ago and Angelo was still in charge, and he came by last year to check the work again…so as of November of 2013 he still owned the business. They are simply the best.

Agree with the Edson evaluation however Angelo and Steve sold the business a few years ago. I have not heard any current evaluation of the new owners work.

EDSON are by far the best Brownstone restoration company I have ever worked with and their work stands up through freezing winters and baking summers year after year. During any long construction job their are always issues come up; with Angelo Caputo there are no problems only solutions with a smile… Great to work with; but more importantly the work stands up & also the Landmarks commission love them, so they will not hold you up if they know Edson is on the job. To be honest I have never heard of the others so cannot compare literally. But Edson are a tough act to compete with in my books.
