Cornice renovation

Our brownstone wooden cornice is falling apart, birds are living in the openings and we need to replace or restaure it. What are our options? Shall we restaure it with wood or change it to fiberglass or copper? Do we need permits and an architect or only a contractor? Can we do it alone or shall we do it together with the facade job that is also overdue? Can someone recommend a good specialist for cornices jobs? Thank you

We, myself and my two neighbors are in the middle of cornice work. More correctly, they are finished, 2 new cornices, and we are about to begin. We all used East Coast Builders, also know as East Coast Slate. I found them through Brownstoner. We a triplet houses on Prospect Place between Flatbush and 6th Ave, if you want to check it out.

Same question here.  Scaffold is already in place as we are rebrownstoning, but the facade guy won’t touch the cornice.  Who is good at this stuff?

A good part of the cornice repair cost is going to be for the method that the contractor is getting access to the cornice, i.e., scaffolding, boom lift, etc. so in that sense it’s more economical to get as much work done as you can while you have the scaffolding in place.
