Brick Facade Repair...

Hi, We are gearing up to have our brick facade repaired. The most significant issue is a bulge in the brick. (We also want to repair a rotting cornice, repoint, etc.) We are starting to talk to contractors, but some have told us we need to talk with an architect/engineer first–who need to file the paperwork with the DOB–because of the brickwork that needs to be done. Does anybody here have experience with this type of repair? I’m hoping to hire a contractor who is willing/able to coordinate with an architect or engineer–rather than find an architect myself. (I’m doubtful that an architect or engineer would take on this kind of project, since it’s not a whole-house job. Maybe I’m wrong?) I’d love any advice from people who’ve been down this road. Did you hire an an engineer or architect yourself? Or start with a contractor? Do you have anybody to recommend? Thanks, Jessica

Jessica, I had a similar job done. I used Philip Toscano ( www.ptarchitects.com ) for the permit/plan. Phil is a successful architect with a busy office and a good sized staff, but the good thing is because he is busy he won’t make a small job into a big job. Shamrock
