mice

anyone have any good ideas to keep the mice out of my house? I’ve shored up the holes with steel wool and spray foam and I’ve got an exterminator coming in once a month with bait that is supposed to kill them off. I’ve taped up the pocket doors. Anything else I can do? Thanks!

Didn’t know we had a mouse or a mouse problem until we adopted a kitten.  That was eight years ago.  Said kitten found the mouse and has kept our house mouse free ever since.  Yes, she is a female.

You’ve filled all the holes and you’re still having a problem? There must be holes you cannot reach. If you’re a landlord, the best thing to do is block up all the holes in the basement and foundation with mesh and concrete. I’ve tried a lot of different approaches as a renter and a landlord. The most effective was blocking up holes with mesh and concrete and having an extermintor in once a month to spray tracking powder into areas where the mice run. The mice absorb it when grooming and they do all die off. We haven’t had a mouse since we started this about a year ago. Don’t forget to clean with a mixture of bleach, water, and dish soap where they used to run to get rid of the stench.

Yeah, second that on the cat. Best rodent prevention method, ever. If you aren’t a “cat person” I would suggest that you board or borrow one (or two) for a weekend. Some of the shelters will allow you to take one home for a weekend. It’s usually for the purposes of seeing if the pet is a good fit before you adopt. Who knows, you might actually like the little kitty and end up keeping him or her!

When I bought my house, it seemed there was a bad mouse infestation problem – especially in the kitchen area. But I arrived with two cats. They roam and protect. Probably the cheapest method to keep your house free of the rodents.
