Scafolding on for months - and no work
The building next door to mine had scafolding installed almost a year ago, apparently to change windows/do some facade repair work but no work has been done for about 8 months. The scafolding covers a big part of the sidewalk by my house and it obscures the house and garden. Also some of the street trees have lost some limbs this spring – I’m not sure it’s because of their growth while “trapped” within the structure, but it’s possible… so I don’t like the scafolding there for any longer than necessary. Have you had a similar experience? Do you know where I can find the rules regarding the use of scafolding? Many thanks! Ray

Unfortunately gobbaloon is right. Our building underwent a facade renovation a few years ago and what was expected to be a 6-8 month project turned into just over 2 years. The scaffold stayed stayed up the whole time.

Thanks Gobbaloon. Certainly not what I was hoping… it sounds like it can stay there forever, that’s really unfortunate. I’d have guessed there is some sort of time limit.

Facade repair work can turn out to be a lot more involved that it appears at first. Scaffold goes up, then contractors discover repairs are more costly than thought. Owner has to refinance or find money somehow. But cheaper to leave the scaffold in place than pay for dismantle and re-erection. I went through this as owner and didn’t like monthly scaffold bills but it was still cheaper to leave it up. And our trees got damaged. G
