Work completed/ Job remains open

The work has been filed and completed (over 3 years ago) while the permits were current/displayed…however we did not close the job – this was self-serf ALT2. Only plumbing has been inspected/closed. The GC/electrician were semi-retired, and are now fully retired, do not live in the US. I would take a lot (i imagine) to get a new GC/electrician to sign off. The expeditor said it’s not a big deal just leave it hanging – unless we need to sell (and we don’t!) and it will make it easier if we want to amend and do more work in the feature (e.g. an extension). Is this right? what are the potential consequences of not closing Alt/2 and electric, say, for 10 years? can the same job be amended for future work? the house (single family) is occupied and no work is being done. Thanks!

The way the City changes codes, brings in new revenue streams etc. at the drop of a hat, I am leaning more these days to finishing and closing all open issues in the time that we know what is what…. open permits may soon be a revenue stream with fines etc. soon or who knows what codes you may need to bring things up to close them out at some point in the future. Yes, at this time you really only need to worry if you want to sell now or refinance a mortgage …. but who knows what revenue, fines etc. can be implemented when you least expect it.
