Seeking to hire help for curb cut violation?
I think I need help and I don’t even know whom I should hire: contractor vs lawyer vs expeditor.
Any recommendations for the right kind of expert?
Or even better a contact for such expert?
Received a sidewalk curb cut violation. And a separate violation that I am not allowed to park my car in my front yard, unless it is inside a garage??? Don’t quote me on the exact violation as the handwriting on the citation is somewhat illegible. But it does look scary with a “cure by date” and a “hearing date” for me to appear in front of them in person!

You might have some luck visiting the NYC Municipal Archives collection and finding your 1940 or 1980 tax photo Good chance it will have a clear front facade image showing the curb cut driveway. One indicator of the age of the curb cut is if it is in stone

Definitely just go in your myself the first time. You can likely get your fine taken away pleading you were unaware and won’t do it again or at least reduced and show that you are more than happy to remedy/not repeat the problem. Show interest in getting to the bottom of it.

oh an if you’re having trouble reading the information written on the ticket you can try searching for it on the ECB ticketfinder website (http://a820-ecbticketfinder.nyc.gov/searchHome.action?) which will list the violations and potential fines.

could be that the curb cut to the easement is legal but parking on your front yard isn’t?

Thanks, will research more! I believe the cut itself should be legal. It leads to an easement (for driving between the houses) which shows up in the title search.

what you need depends on what you plan on doing. if you believe you have a legal curb cut, find documentation of that and bring it to the hearing to fight the ticket (you can find out if you have curb cut permit through the DOB BIS system). if you don’t have a legal curb cut you need to cure the condition, take pictures of the corrected condition, and submit that information as described on the ticket. you don’t need an expert to do either of these things.

It sounds like you do not have a legal curb cut. You cannot just park in your own front yard because you have the space to do so.
The City has outlawed the legalization of these types of parking “priorities”. Because you are permanently depriving the public from parking on the public street in front of your house for your priority parking space! Plus taking away green space & blighting the appearance of the block; in many peoples opinion.
If you do not have a legal curb cut; you will know if you do because it will show up on your title search from when you bought the property and no doubt your seller / attorney pointed this out as a great asset! You cannot legalize it now. All you can do is close up the fence, fix the curb if you took it out. Park somewhere else. And plant a tree!

Do you have a legal curb cut or are you just driving over the curb onto the front of the property to park?
