Existing Dryer and Hood Vents - Would you use them?
Hi there, the previous owner of our coop had installed exterior vents for both the dryer and range hood. We’re taking down some walls in our apt and redoing the kitchen, and so we’re going through the DOB for permits. Per code, these vents should be min 24″ from any of our windows. But, as we’ve started demo, we’ve noticed that the vents are actually much closer to the window than we originally thought. The venting has been approved by the DOB (and our coop) per the drawings, but as I understand it the inspector might not like it so much! Any ideas for what to do? It would be a shame to not use these pre-existing vents, which I know are a rarity in the city! And I don’t know if we really want to make new holes in the exterior wall. Thanks very much in advance.

Its best to make use of them if they are already there. With the vents you can use a proper gas dryer and a proper exhaust fan/hood in the kitchen. Levi Capland
