Clearing ECB violations

I had two ECB violations that required a new plumber to take over a job from an incompetent one, finish up any work, and get the proper inspections. All that has been done and the DOB has approved everything. The ECB fines were paid. To my surprise, that does not automatically clear the ECB violations. What has to be done to get the City to update the records? Is this something I can do myself or do I need an expediter? Any idea of the cost or who to call? The plumber says his job stopped one the inspections were signed off by the DOB. Thanks….

Anyone can submit paperwork to the Administrative Enforcement Unit (AEU) to clear active ECB violations. You don’t necessarily need an expeditor; however, if you are not familiar with what documents are required or where to go or have the experience in generating the proper documents for submission to ECB, then the process can be a bit daunting.

To clear an active ECB violation, any penalty amounts due will have to be processed first unless the case is re-opened to reduce the imposed penalty fines. Once a decision has been made on a violation and the penalty fine paid (if applicable) then proof of how the violation was corrected (copy of permits, approved plans, photos, etc.) can be submitted to the AEU for review and approval of the Certificate of Correction.

Expeditors can attend hearings, mitigate the fees and file the certificate of corrections. Our company, Outsource Consultants, built a free tool where you can check your inspections and initiate an inquiry. http://outsource.nyc/ecb

Thank you for your responses. You don’t often hear the words “good story” and “DOB” in the same sentence, but I have a good story about the DOB. The expediter quoted $1,500 to get the ECB violations taken care of (after the DOB signed off on everything). I thought that was a lot of money. So I did some research on what forms and back-up data I needed, collected it all, and went down to the DOB (@ 280 Broadway, 5th fl). A very nice woman helped me with any questions I had, took the forms, and processed them. I had the certificates of correction before walking out of the building and my DOB record was updated this morning. I think expediters can provide a valuable service, but just not in this case and often at a price which reflects their monopoly pricing power. I’ve been told that with the new DOB HUB and Now systems to submit permits and inspection requests online, less will be required from expediters. It feels like Uber and yellow cabs — a little disruption and the system gets a whole lot more efficient.

You need to file a Certificate of Correction with the Manhattan DOB. I’d suggest contacting an expediter to do it for you.
