Can we store stuff at our new house if we didnt get the C of O yet?

We are finishing up our new house…Calling for inspections and all that fun stuff. We are trying to find out…can we start storing stuff there? We just have so much stuff in our little apartment and I want to move stuff there (TVs…some couches…a bed). Did anyone ever deal with such a situation? I would love to say “Its MY house, I should be able to do what I want”…but this is the NYC Buildings Department we are dealing with so who knows what could happen.

Just make sure the house doesn???t look like you living there, you can keep stuff but if you un-pack and the inspector is in a bad mood he can issue a violation so make sure even the moody inspector will be OK with the way it looks.

I can’t imagine there would be a problem as long as it doesn’t look like you’re living there.  Just keep the stuff in boxes or in a pile in the middle of a room, covered with a sheet, so it looks like it’s just stored there until the work is done, which it actually is.

No, seriously, the Building Dept has a team of armored dogs and full riot-clad patrolmen who shoot on sight anyone caught moving stuff into a non-CO dwelling. Goods are destroyed immediately.
