Basement in Two Family House

I own a two family house.  There is no C of O but the DOB classification is a two family dwelling.  Assuming the basement is not deemed a “cellar” and is not rented to anyone, it it legal to put a kitchen and bathroom in the basement?

if your basement is really the “garden” level of the building–and not more than half below grade–then it should be normal and fine to have a kitchen and a bathroom there. That said, there are rules about fire proofing between apartments and goodness knows what else and you’ll likely need an architect to guide you through.
