ABOVE GROUND POOL- Queens

I installed an above ground pool in my backyard. One of my neighbors called with a complaint to the DOB on me. So the complaint reads: that the pool is too close to the property lines. Inspector came but nobody was home and left an letter to call for inspection.
So on one side the pool is too close to the line. It’s 2ft and few inch. I think 9 inches short of the required distance.
What should I do now? Do I let them in next time? How serious is this ?

Woohoo! I said they made three attempts, but I was wrong. It seems it’s two.

Now given this success, have you considered filling the pool with champagne or dollar bills to really stick it to the neighbors?

Many people bypass their water meter in all manner of ways. If filling the pool all went through the water meter & the water bill has been paid, you are less likely run afoul with DEP, but it is still an offence without the required permit.
I have seen hoses run from Fire Hydrants or even cutting into the main before the meter, then putting it back straight, effectively stealing the water.

so resident 2: this is just curiosity. how is someone supposed to fill a pool? in any other jurisdiction they use a garden hose and house water. except one of my neighbors. he was a high ranking fire official and he had a fire truck pull up and fill his pool once.

DOB may well send it to DEP for misuse of domestic water. How when did you fill it up?
One of my contractors that lives in Staten Island, got a huge triple water use bill for his above ground pool after DOB failed to find a violation that stuck.

They will collect for some violations, speaking from personal experience. It comes down to the class of violation. Eviction is probably hard especially now.
