PERMIT NEEDED FOR INTERIOR DEMO?

Does one need a permit to demo non-structural interior walls, removing metal studs and sheetrock, remove doors, as well as kitchens and bathrooms?

My architect told me that you need a permit if you are altering 45 square feet of wall, structural or not. 45 square feet is not very much at all, so the advice that you need a permit for everything is pretty much correct.

You need a permit if you live in Park Slope. You don’t need one if you live in East Flatbush.

If you need to ask if a permit is needed, the answer is always : Yes. Would I always get one….no. Technically you need a permit for just about everything….. the City would come to a grinding halt if everyone applied for every permit that is required.
