Venting Dryer to Front of House

I am looking to finish my basement, and the best layout scenario involves moving the Washer/Dryer to the front of the house.  My question is: is it common to vent to the front of the house?  We are right up on the sidewalk (facade is maybe 8 ft from the sidewalk), so not sure how unpleasant it would be to passersby and my neighbors.  Also, in the winter the vent will be putting off steam. Thoughts?  Thanks in advance.
