Seeking a skilled Mason to smooth a poured cement slab.

Renavating a basement in Greenwood Heights (South Slope/Sunset Park area) and we will be pouring a cement slab in the next few weeks. We want a “Polished” cement floor finished look. I’m seeking a good freelance mason who can come in the day of the pour and work his magic to smooth out the cement as much as possible. The cement will be the finish floor. Thanks much.

We have polished concrete in our home.  Love it.  What you want is probably not a mason but a concrete floor specialist. In fact, I’d call one BEFORE you hire someone else to pour the slab.  I highly recommend Robert Rowen.  We interviewed several people, and he was the only one who seemed truly knowledgable and was down to earth and very pleasant to work with.  He and his guys did excellent work, were very professional/respectful/respectable/clean, and his price was fair (most of the quotes came in fairly close; he kept his quoted price, despite the job taking longer than he had anticipated).  http://avantdesigninc.com/ Please tell him the folks in Prospect Heights recommended him. Also, btw, since you’re pouring a new slab, you should consider radiant heat, if you haven’t already worked out your heating system for the house.  It is marvelous in polished concrete–very comfortable and extremely energy-efficient.
