Noise from One Hanson Place / Williamsburg savings tower

Has anyone else noticed a new noise emanating from The Williamsburgh Bank Tower? It is a dull humming vacuum cleaner noise that runs all day and night. Guests noticed it when we were outside on the garden this weekend. Can hear it even inside my house on Saint Felix Street. It can not only be me…

It’s definitely coming from BAM Fisher, and yes, that’s unfortunate. These past two week-ends it’s become much worse — a loud, strident noise. Last weekend I actually went over there; a very nice maintenance guy went up and eventually did something so that the noise went down to its more usual fan/hum level. I’ve filed with the DEP (311 online) and they’ve been responsive, at least at first, but now are giving us the run-around. I recommend that others raise the issue with the DEP and with BAM. This level of noise pollution isn’t necessary.

I don’t think it’s 1 Hanson Place. I think it’s coming off the new system on the roof of BAM Fisher (which is too bad) and reflecting off of Hanson Place. City noise code allows for 45 dB of noise as measured from an open window that is 3 feet from the ventilation system in question. With a simple mobile app, I measured 50 dB from my window which is probably 400-500 feet away? I’m sure if the right person at BAM realized the noise it was making they would do something about it. It feels like something might actually be wrong with the system as noise like that often points to efficiency loss. But it could just be a simple matter of Hanson Place reflecting and amplifying the sound. Either way deflecting the noise away from Hanson Place would help a lot I think.

Yes this is a big problem. It’s running 24/7 and gets louder sometimes. Probably someone in the development of 1 Hanaon cheered out on the HVAC system. There must be some way to put a muffler on it.

Are they doing any interior work?  If there is any remediation of hazardous materials like asbestos, they might be running air cleaners around the clock.

I hear it too. It’s definitely louder than running ACs. It looks like they are doing some work on the South facade near the top, but that doesn’t explain the overnight noise.
