Is a deck subject to 30 ft. rear setback rules?
I am thinking about adding a deck off my parlor floor. The existing extension is 30 ft off the rear property line, in line with the applicable zoning. Would a deck also be subject to the 30 ft set back rules? Thanks as always…..

It’s my understanding that you can build an 8′ deep parlor floor deck in a 30′ yard. You can build beyond that in a deeper yard. You can have steps down to the back yard. As to combustibility, you are required to use non-combustible material within 3′ of your property lines. If you stay 3′ away, you can use wood. Steve

OP here. Jock — did you mean **non-**combustible _or_ are there different rules if it is wood vs iron? What determines how deep the deck can extend into the 30′ rear yard? I am thinking about 8′ ~ 10′. Is a stair allowable down to the backyard? Thanks.

Not a 100% on this, but think its 8ft if off the ground and non combustable. if on the ground, can be wood and be larger.

It can extend a certain amount into the rear setback if to be of combustible construction.
