Roof Access and Bulkhead

What woud be the approximate cost of creating access to the roof, with stairs and a bulkhead, through the top floor apartment of a brick townhouse?

My brownstone coop is pricing out this option as part of our re-roofing plans. If we decide to go the complete roof gut renovation route (down to the joists and brick before rebuilding with new material), then we’re exploring building a roof deck on I beams with access from a new bulkhead and stairs (replacing the present ladder and hatch). I’m waiting for a detailed quote to be emailed but can drop the roofing firm a line to ask them (firm called Gary Roofing). I discussed that access aspect with them today and they didn’t preted that it was simple – it’s not! Roof joists need to be cut to accommodate the bulkhead, stairs have to be stepped from the landing below, the old hatch removed, filled and sealed.  If I had to hazard a guess, I’d say this aspect of the project will cost about $5-7K but can pass on more details when I have them.
