Renovation recommendation - The Tinker's Wagon

We had just purchased a 2BR apartment that had a decade earlier been converted to one large bedroom, and needed to convert it back to two for our new baby. Steve and his team did excellent work on a reasonably extensive list of requests: we had necessary demo, bookshelves inset into the walls, a solid-wood closet built to order, an interior wall constructed, paint for both rooms, new molding and a tray ceiling for both rooms, new hardwood flooring installed, and custom shelves for the baby’s room. He even ran our TV cable in from the outside through a hole that he hid behind the molding, so that he could hang our flat TV on the wall neat and tidy with no unsightly wires. We requested some electrical rewiring, and Steve had no problem setting us up with an excellent electrician (Tom Munetz, 718-416-2686) who got all the electrical work done quickly and easily. We had a brand new baby at the time, and Steve and his crew were thinking of the baby every step of the way.  Every time I’m able to creep out of the baby’s room at night without waking him, I remember that Steve insisted on using both glue and nails for the floor in the baby’s room so that the boards would never squeak, and had a dimmer switch installed for the ceiling light, which I now can’t imagine living without. This was a very good experience throughout, with all work done at the (very reasonable) costs agreed upon up front. He accomodated any requests we made as our vision of the project changed a bit after work was underway.  It is also worth noting that we felt completely comfortable having Steve and his crew in our home, whether or not we were there.  In short, we can’t imagine having hired anyone else to do the work, and we are nothing short of thrilled with the result. http://www.thetinkerswagon.com/ -Jeff and Gwen

Very highly recommended.  I first hired Steve almost 15 years ago to repair an oak floor.  Then almost all the renovation work for the apartment:  new ceilings/insulation, sheetrock walls, kitchen counter (he knew I’d want it strong enough to stand on), windows, and re-finishing the floors.  Hung a solid oak internal door, including reinforcement; also locks (the self-re-keyable Multi-lock was a great idea) and door hardware for entry doors.  On his web site you can see the CD shelves he built for me.  When I was out of state last year, he was able to make some emergency repairs since he’s always had keys.  Great to know there’s someone like him to count on.
