Removing metal spiral staircase

We have a metal spiral staircase in our home that we need to remove since we will be replacing them with another solution. Can anyone recommend either someone who is reasonably priced (I got a quote for $2,500 which is NOT going to happen) or a solution for getting them out and disposed of? They are welded together but I have been told that they can be taken apart. Any and all thoughts or ideas are very much appreciated. We are at a bit of a loss on this one – and we thought that would be the easy part!!

We are considering trying to find an old metal spiral stair to use in a new project.  If the size is about right, I could have the contractor come by to see if he can dismantle it in a way that it can be reassembled.  Ours needs to be 5′ in diameter and about 11 feet tall.  Is yours anything near that size?     Jim Hill, RA, LEED AP Urban Pioneering Architecture
