Legal contruction hours

Hi I just found out that PS 3 on Jefferson between Franklin and Bedford is going to be renovated and re-pointed this summer. The word is that work will start at 8 pm and run until midnight because summer school is in session. Please can someone advise what the legal construction work hours are in Brooklyn and if there are any exemptions to this – like schools for example. I cannot begin to imagine how annoying this is going to be, especially as they claim the work will take a year! Also, does anyone know who we should write to/call to try to get this project done during reasonable hours. (If you live in the vicinity, you might want to protest too!) Thanks!

I live across from a nyc public school. The School Construction Authority is in charge of construction on NYC schools. They have been working on the school across from my house for 18 months. They have a special late night construction permit that allows them to work until 11:00 p.m. They start on Saturdays at 8:00 a.m. There is nothing you can do about it either. If you contact the school construction authority they will put you in touch with the person in their office that is overseeing the work. Not that they were of much help.

PS 130 in Windsor Terrace is undergoing this as we speak. They start at 3PM and go until midnight every night, but I think they stop the jackhammers at 10PM

We had the same thing on the school accross from our house and when I said something to one of the workman who was using a demolition hammer at 9 PM, he told me they had a permit to work until 10 PM. I believed him. Steve
