I recommend GMC&D for anyone looking for a general purpose contractor
I can say Aaron Gruenberg – owner of Green Mountain Construction and Design (GMC&D – gmcandd.com) just did a wonderful job on some remodeling work in a 100 year old house we just bought in Williamsburg. We had him remove some partition walls (both load bearing and non), repair a plaster ceiling that was falling in and he was able to save the plaster crown around the perimeter, install some new parlor doors after enlarging the opening twice the width, etc. Very nice guy, worked very hard to get the job done right and unlike many construction people we have dealt with in the past – he actually shows up every day and works all day, even when it rains or when it was almost 100 degrees! Not too many contractors we have dealt with in the past did that. He even knows how to plaster using the real stuff and is excellent at it – his new plaster work blended right in with the 100 year old plaster. We are very pleased with the work he did and the price was very reasonable.

Thanks. It was a pleasure working with you too and if any other contractors are wondering: you can’t have a more easy-going, clear-instructing, on-time-paying, convenient-parking client than the Williamsburg Guys. If any insurance industry folks are wondering: this was a DOB Alteration Type 2 – minor interior renovation. I signed the contract for this job, under the insurance classification: carpentry NOC (not otherwise classified), during last year’s insurance period, before the comp rates went up, but it is not my core business, and I dispute my classification going forward. I never-never erect new structures, nor demolish buildings. I do not erect scaffolding, nor work on exteriors. I reasonably demand fair rates for workers compensation comparable with other firms performing similar interior work under existing, specific classifications such as tile setting, cabinet installation, and wallboard. Feel free to contact me directly through my website or the Brownstoner directory.
