How long to get DOB permits using an expeditor?

We’re not changing the C of O, Architect is self certifying the drawings. He keeps saying we will get the permits “quickly” but I would like a better idea from people who have btdt.  We should have had plans filed weeks ago and he stll hasn’t done it. I’m getting antsy. He seems to think it will only take a few days.

I don’t know that I would call it a myth… while they (DOB) do audit more than they have in the past (most Architects I work with in Brooklyn will call it the ghost of Scarano) many jobs continue to escape scrutiny and for those that are, in fact, legit, do pass audit/inspection.

Self certifing is NOW a Myth. The city is more and more randomly choosing to look at self certs and put you thru the ringer. It takes 1-2 years to get the final sign off. The permits have nothing todo with self certifying get a new expditor.

If your architect decides to go down the self-cert/directive 14 route you’re looking at somewhere between a day and a week to get the plans approved.  

As the other posters have indicated, the hassle is reduced when you wait the few weeks and let the people at the DOB review the plans.  But if the plans are simple and the architect/engineer understands the risks, it’s their headache when the project is audited.

Self-cert will be audited and probably an insperction as well at sign-off. DOB is trying to make life so miserable for anyone that takes this route. Wait a few weeks and you will be far happier.
