Cost of installing a gas line?

The people who flipped our building back in the 70s removed the gas line.  I hate cooking on an electric stove. Now that we are renovating we are considering installing a new gas line. Has anyone done this and have an idea of the cost? The brownstones on either side of us still have gas. Thanks!

Have you considered replacing your stove? Induction stoves work great, you get as much control over temperature as with gas, and they are more eficcient and so easy to clean. I was using gas and liked it, but I switched to induction several years back and I’ve never looked back. I have a Miele.

I think there was concern in the industry in the late 70’s through 80’s that gas lines in old wood frame buildings would fail due to structural vibrations.  I remember hearing that from a develope I use to work for.  I found it puzzling, but I’m in the same boat you are.  I looked into it a few years ago and for my parlor floor kithcen it was in the $4 to $5K range.

And talk to your neighbors below. You cannot run gas line on stairways, shafts and so on, unless you hire general contractor and build fire rated enclosure for gas line and pass all construction inspections. over 5k +  construction

Couldn’t say without looking at the job but I would say you are looking at over $5k. You should consider piping for a clothes dryer too.

Ok. Not a big deal. But the cost of the job is highly dependent on the number of appliances you want to pipe. Also don’t forget to figure the cost of wall repair.
