Permits needed for coop renovation?

I am planning a coop renovation which includes a bathroom gut, a cosmetic renovation of the kitchen (including the addition of a dishwasher), plaster work, and putting in a new breaker box/updating electrical. I was under the impression that permits were not needed for renovations unless walls were moved/plumbing was significantly changed, which is not happening here. I understand that our plans need to be approved by the coop, but do I need to pull permits for this as well? We do not have an architect and our GC seems to think that permits are needed. If we do need this, recommendations for an expeditor would be welcome.

I am a coop shareholder and I often work directly for coop shareholders.  I have done several jobs, which seem like what you describe in buildings where alteration agreements were aproved by management and building architects.

If the fixtures are staying in the same places or close, it is Ordinary Plumbing Work.  This is filed on a monthly report by your plumber.  Your electrician will also file on line.  If, all the walls, doorways, cabinets and fixtures will be in the same places as before, you are not altering the space.  Why would you need an alt II or other type of permit?

At a min you will need to pull a plumbing and electrical permit.  Your building may request you to get a general building permit as well.
