Indoor Air Quality Test

A few weeks ago I was starting the process of entering into contract on a co-op studio in Brooklyn Heights directly above a Dry Cleaner.  I was concerned about PERC exposure and several of you chimed in with great, logical advice (Green MT) to have the air tested.  I took a recommendation from someone (sorry was it Dylan? – Gowanus?) for Spencer at Oasis Indoor Environmental.  He is so straight up, so thorough, realistic, diplomatic and kind.  He’s also a one man operation! He measured the PERC levels and unfortunately they were very very high.  I passed on the apartment and the seller brought the issue to the co-op board who is apparently looking into fixing it.  I wanted to thank the forum so much and recommend this great service:   http://www.oasisie.com/contact_us.html

I recommended Spencer and I am not a bit surprised that you were so pleased. What a guy! In a more than year-long restoration with many horrors along the way, there are exactly two people I can recommend with that kind of enthusiasm and Spencer is one of them. And brokelin, for what Spnecer charges it was worth it because otherwise ladhalsey would have still wondered if he made a big mistake passing on the place.

Not surprised…I would have figured that it would be high (here have been many studies that say as much), and passed without spending money on the test, as I advised you to do.  I’m just glad you did the test, and got out, for your health’s sake.

Not quite the end.  I asked for details of the test results and Ladhalsey said:  “The PERC level was 5400 micrograms per cubic meter compared to the NYSDOH limit of 100 micrograms per cubic meter for a residence.” I am not if I could have deleted this some how, but I copied it and sent it to somebody who can knowledgely answer this:  Is it typical? “The PERC level was 5400 micrograms per cubic meter compared to the NYSDOH limit of 100 micrograms per cubic meter for a residence.”
