Source for old-fashioned slotted screws?

Anyone know an old hardware store in Brooklyn or other local source for slotted screws? I’m looking for regular small slotted wood screws to install a vintage soap dish and shelf in a bathroom. You know, just the regular old screws that were common before 1970 or so. They have one line bisecting the head instead of a cross. We’re in Bed Stuy but can travel. I know eBay sellers have them, but I thought it would be easier to buy in person. Thanks!

it is funny that you are looking for these as I opened a “parachute” bag just yesterday that I had not opened since about 1990 and found a whole bunch of slot screws in there and was thinking what am I going to do with these besides toss them (we don’t use slot bit anymore, too slow).  I’ve have been driving by your house every evening and can leave them on your steps if you like.  BTW, the ones I have are pan head –  Steve

That is a pretty vague request.  Most wood screws are slotted rather than phillips, and flat headed.  Any good hardware store has a pretty vast collection of screws.  Even HD or Lowes has a decent collection, and some “specialty screws” in plastic bins.  Or, you can find virtually any screw imaginable here http://www.fastenal.com/web/home.ex
