Carpenter or handyman for wood trash shed?

http://cdn.brownstoner.com/4f9c1079a6228-.jpg

Can anyone recommend someone to make a wood garbage can shed like the one in this picture for the front of our brownstone? Opens at front and on top. Wood should be relatively weather resistant (I know it’s wood so it’s not going to last forever).  Dimensions approx 56L x 30W x 36H. Want someone who will take measurements, build and finish in off-site shop, then deliver. Sorry, not interested in the metal ones recommended on other posts. What should I expect to pay for something like this? Thanks!

Be careful if you are in a historic district. My old wood enclosures got a warning letter and they have to be removed or replaced with something approved by Landmarks Preservation Commission. I love the rat-proof nature of the MetroBox, so am in the process of trying to get those approved and will keep you all posted if successful. Cheerfully, Glarph

Hi, I just came across this thread, and I’d like to say that I’m a happy Checklist Homeservices customer. In 2013 I spent a lot of time looking for someone who would build a trash can enclosure for the bins we have in front of our 3-family condo building in Park Slope (Brooklyn, NY). I got two leads for local carpenters who turned down the job. They told me that they had stopped building this type of container, and even said that the ones they had done for other clients eventually warped due to being exposed to weather. I then came across Checklist Homeservices’s CitiBin (http://checklisthomeservices.com/innovations-with-trash). My neighbors and I decided it was worth the money. We split the cost and have been very happy with the enclosures ever since. The materials are resistant to our extreme weather conditions; there are planters at the top where we were able to plant some nice flowers and tall grass this spring; and all in all the containers look pretty and modern. We are happy that they hide the trash cans which were such an eyesore. Liz at Checklist Homeservices also provides excellent customer service. I couldn’t be happier! Hope my review helps inform other people who might be looking for a similar solution.

Hi, We are looking for a similar type of container, but dont have lots of $ to spend on this. Just wondering if you were able to find a good solution. And if you had a recommendation. Thanks!

Wow, I pity the poor homeowner who’s buying the checklist bins pictured. Even higher-end Country Casual sells teak bins for less (countrycasual.com/Trash-Receptacles.aspx). Lots of other online commercial vendors selling them for even less. Or try walking along PPW between 5th-7th St. There used to be wooden bins in a front yard with a probably local maker’s tag glued to the back.

I know i’ve reccomended them before but have you considered a MetroBox made out of metal? we’ve owned ours for about a year now and still look like new.

Glad to see this post because we will be building trash corrals for two clients and may make a few more to get economies of scale.  Size similar to the unit in your photo, but design similar to the attached photo (minus the planter, although that’s an option).  We’re making one in cedar, and the other potentially of ipe (which is considerably more expensive). Still pricing out materials, but the cedar unit including labor, delivery and install will be around $1800.  Costs will come down if we build more, so if you or anyone else reading this are interested, please let me know.  Liz, checklisthomeservices.com, 347-766-5776
