Stoop Repair- Masonry wall structural issues

April 25, 2015 at 12:31 pm Structural repair of Stoop Walls Has anyone had to repair the underside of the walls that support the stoop? After this winter’ extreme temperature I noticed cracks on the bottom stairs. I inspected the space under the stoop and the brick walls that were previously stuccoed, have lost their stucco finish and the mortar for the exposed brick is loose. Clearly the movement on the wall is causing the crack. This is not a cosmetic stoop repair job. The brownstone repair guys are good at dealing with the surface of the steps but this will require structural repair underneath first, before I can finish the stoop outside. The first step (pun intended) is finding a structural engineer that specializes in restoration work so we can figure out how to stage the work to repair the masonry and then finish the steps outside. Any suggestions on good structural engineers? Any one can share if they had to do this kind of work before? Thanks for your feedback.
