Stabilize/Strengthen Unstable or Separated Masonry Walls

One old method of stabilization was the use of Patrice plates and threaded rod. You had your pick of a “decorative” steel plate on the face or interior of your structure but you still had the plate. Many times removal and rebuilding an area of masonry from a window opening to a full front or back faced was necessary. Now “Means, Methods and Materials” are available for concealed strengthening even for fascia walls pulling away from the wood substructures. Common sense dictates that a “stabilization-in-place” method of renovation has to be less expensive and time consuming than a “rip-out-and-replace” alternative. More and more engineers and contractors are starting to employ these “next generation” methods and materials. The question is whether your builder or engineer is familiar with them. I am more than happy to post specifics if the group is interested.
