recs to install kitchen and bathroom exhaust fans - volume3
Kitchen is located centre of house – need duct to run through one wall, across the next room (approx 10ft) and out the rear wall. Bathroom is similar requirement – through interior wall across room (apprx 8ft) and out rear wall. Thanks

The reason they [DOB] won’t approve the horizontal run in your case is because of the likelihood of fire due to grease buildup. You are going to have to build a small chase up through the house if you want to do it right. Consider it.

We were told that across and out won’t be approved by DOB, kitchen just had to go up.
Is there a chase or route up available?
Even if this is being considered without a permit, you would get nabbed later because they would know you never would have gotten it approved.
For general reference, ducts can be up between joists if that is the direction you need to go. Across joists means dropping the ceiling at least 2″.
