Question on adding sink where there is none

Hi everyone, have a quick question for this peculiar situation. I have a small building with a few one bedrooms, but one of the units is a small studio that has no kitchen. It has what is called a “cooking closet” in the Icard. It’s basically a stove in small closet like space, that is ok, but I finally want to renovate and add a small kitchen. How complicated would it be for me to just add a sink and a few cabinets? I was thinking of putting it against the same wall as the bathroom to tie into the existing plumbing since the pipes, drain and vent are right there. Is this something that will take years for the DOB to complete and really expensive or straightforward. Would I need to draw new plans as well? thanks for any suggestions

Call an Architect, not a contractor. They will give you what you want now, while earning you a DOB violation and future legalization nightmare. Get an Architect and do it properly. It’s worth it in the end.

If you are just adding a sink to the apartment a plumber can file this work with the building department as an Alteration and Repair Application. If you are re-configuring the kitchen, you’ll need a licensed professional to prepare plans for filing at the building department. Your new kitchen or kitchenette will need to be handicap adaptable. Filing the work should not be an issue. After submitting the plans, you’ll hear from the building department if two to three weeks.
