Mailboxes and Changing addresses at brownstone

I am nearing the completion of my renovation and conversion of a brownstone from an SRO configuration to a triplex plust gaden rental. Two issues regarding mail delivery: (1) I have an ugly and broken 5-unit mail box inset into the brownstone under the stoop (approx 24″ x 36″) which isn’t working; and (2) the post office thinks there are 5 units here and I get loads of excess junkmail addressed to the phantom apartments.  How have folks handled replacing an old five-unit box with something more elegant that can serve an owner unit and a tenant unit? Any advice on sources of mail boxes and configurations would be welcome. On the second issue, the Post Office tells me to contact the Address Management System but I am getting a “no answer” endless loop at their Brooklyn number. Had anyone out there successfully navigated this process to get a “formal” change in the buildings addresses?  Thanks!

It was an illegal SRO, so not officially classified. I had a long delay between contract and closing, however, to get the LNO on use as a 2-family.  After an initial denial of the LNO, the seller’s agent found the right people at the DoB to get it issued and enable us to close.  I’ll post something longer about the reno when we are done….hopefully soon!

i can’t help with the post office question, but i’d love to hear more about your project, especially the process of buying a sro and converting it to class a standard use
