How much value will changes make

We’re considering several projects on our home and I wanted talk to a professional of some sort to get an opinion on what portion of the costs we could reasonably expect to get back when we sell.   Who do I need–realtor, appraiser of some sort? Will they charge for this? Feel free to recommend a specific person. Thanks in advance for any help.

I’m not sure how much value it will add if changes are made to your home. It really depends on how you will renovate your home.

Some owners have done renovations in a current style and expect to recoup costs in a future sale.  Often style and technology changes date the renov, plus, it is no longer “new” in a few years.  If you’re staying for a while, it may be best to figure out if it’s worth it to you and not worry about whether it will increase the value in the future. Thanks for the links.  We definitely agree about our quality of life benefits, but there’s one particular part of the project that we’re having trouble deciding on.   We’re not sure we are up for the disruption and mess of it and just not sure how it will affect our quality of life, but if it adds much value to the home, we think it would be worth the hassle.
