How can I keep old door knobs with worn out metal spindles?

I am looking for a way to keep our old  glass door knows with metal spindles.  However the spindles have worn out and all  hardware stores I’ve tried can’t replace them.  Is there a specialty store for old door spindles or a person who specializes in them?   Thank you,  Muriel
