Faux Brownstone Repair??

My facade needs some serious repairs and honestly, spending thirty or fourthy thousand dollars is not even close to be in my budget. The worst parts are really around the windows on each floor. It’s practically falling off the building. A contractor (not a brownstone repair guy) recently told me that there’s a product or trim that is foam on the inside with concrete on the outside (sort of like the faux wood beams for interior use) which can be used to repair and patch around the windows for less than five thousand dollars…Does this ring a bell with anyone? Is this a product that really exist and would it be worth the effort?

Maybe do a search and find the brownstone guy Dave in Bed Stuy used. He is reputable. It is extremely important to use a brownstone repair person who knows what they are doing — and there are many imposters and charletans around.

Thanks for your responses. This was my initial reaction also but wanted to learn more about the product and get others feedback. Guess we’ll just have to keep saving pennies and cents until the work can get done correctly. Darn! Now I have to choose between facade repair or new bathroom….the joys of home ownership 🙂

eman is correct. its styrofoam. DO NOT recommend it for brownstones! people have used it for stucco work. you can certainly repair the window sills & lentils and any broken parts which has been the more economic solution for many homeowners.

consider researching reputable and experienced brownstone facade folks and ask them about doing spot repairs (not in foam). I’m sure they would all rather do the whole facade which is something like $30k, but maybe they can do the hard parts for part of that cost…

i agree about third commend because brownstone is the real fantacy and beauty of brownstone houses. So, it doesn,t make sence, destroy you own beauty using your own money. I recommended A & T Contracting at 917 254 7112 who repair front facade of my brownstone house and i am happy because he saved kept my house beauty and save my money also. I agree with earlier comment regarding destroying your wall. You do not know how many people want to have brownstone wall which you have. Call this company they will work with your budget. CTG CONSTRUCTION at 718-669-8305 and ask for Millad. He has done very good job for my house and others. This company did our front facade and others, who are member of this forum.
