cornice options

My cornice is not in the best shape.
What are the options if I want to replace it?
I heard there are fiberglass cornices. Is that something that makes sense?

The fabrication quality of fiberglas cornices can vary. When selecting a contractor, look at projects that have been installed for a while to see how they have held up. The paint on Fiberglas needs to be maintained because the UV from sun will deteriorate the material.

First, you want to check if your building is located in a New York City-designated historic district. If it is, your options for repairing and/or replacing the cornice are established by the Landmarks Preservation Commission. While the LPC requires a replacement cornice to closely match the “appearance” of the existing one, it does provide leeway regarding the type of replacement “material” that can be used. FIberglass Reinforced Plastic Cornices are good because, unlike terra cotta, metal or wood, they do not pit, corrode, stain or fade. They are lightweight material that does not require heavy steel supports. Wood cornice are typically hand crafted, which adds to the time and cost of building one.

yes i have heard of fiberglass cornice,and corinces can be either made with metal  or wood .you should find an expert who specializes in cornice. i had a friend who replaced their cornice with a metal.
