Best way to paint old radiators?
Wha’ts the best way to paint old steam radiators? Do I really need to remove them and spray paint them? I would really like to avoid that. TIA

Media blast and powder coating is hands down the best method. That said, to buy myself some time, I primed and spraypainted mine with great success. Almost 2 years and the 3 I did look awesome. Use Rustoleum Professional only (seriously, accept no substitutes) and prime first.

I have had very good success with EverNu Metal on 20th Street in Brooklyn. They sandblasted my radiators and powder coated them with a baked on enamel. Many colors available, never have to paint again, no chipping or peeling. They look fantastic, like they are made of porcelain. Talk to John or Frank.

A professional painter painted two of mine, and didn’t remove them, and I painted one. Just protect the wall behind and get as far as you can reach, unless your guests are planning to inspect the backs with dental mirrors 😉 And, before anyone brings it up, you *don’t* need special hi-temp paint. Radiators top out at 212 degrees (actually a little lower).
