Architect Vs. Engineer for drawings

We are closing soon on a 2 family that we will convert into a single family. We are not going to have any major structural work done (we’ll just need to open up two adjacent windows to create an opening to a garden deck) and the other major change will be that a kitchen in the apartment upstairs will become a master bathroom. The two existing bathrooms will stay in the same place and we might need to add some plumbing in the basement for a washer dryer. I will need some designs to start talking to GC to get quotes and I’m a little confused about how to proceed. Do I need both an architect and an engineer? The layout is very simple and we already have an idea of what we want to do, do I still need an architect or can we just hire an engineer to make the designs that will need to be presented to the DOB for approval?

Be very careful about change of occupancy. It might kick in a code of required internal sprinkler systems. Do extensive research.
