Advice re installing an automatic post light

Hello all We are about to replace the existing electric post light in our front garden as it’s reached the end of its life. Our street is quite dark, so we definitely want to install another. My question is: what is the best way to control when the lantern come ons/goes off? There are photo sensitive dusk to dawn options for both the lantern and the post and I’m assuming there is also a timer option that could be installed? From experience, does anyone think that one option is better than another? Thanks!
