Looking for salvaged marble slab

Hi, Does anyone know of any good cources for salvaged marble?  I want to do a kitchen island with marble, but for a host of reasons I’d prefer to find architectural salvage rather than start with something new.  I check Build It Green and Good OldeThings daily, but I’d love to know any other sources that people use.  I’ve also tried ebay a few times but finding somethign that would need to be shipped across the country with that kind of weight does not seem so practical, I’d like to limit my search to a few hours drive from NYC.  Also, what experiences have people had with building a counter from more than one piece of stone? I understand that the sources need to be close or the grain difference will show, but if you have pieces from the same source (eg slavaged from the same building) – what do you think of using smaller pieces to make something larger?  It isn’t exactly what I had in mind for the kitchen island, but I’m wondering if it is giong to be possible to find an entire piece for a large island, without starting fresh from a quarry . .. Thanks fellow scavengers!

Build it Green LIC has more than Gowanus and not everything is online. If you’re using 2 pieces of stone, you’ll want installers who know what they’re doing. We took a stone person to small claims court once because he installed 2 pieces with the seam above the dishwasher without support. Who does that?? Anyway, Eddie Hibbert on Greene and Grand Vaccarro’s near Lowe’s Gowanus Craigs List (great source!) Hoffman’s Barn, Red Hook (upstate, not Bklyn) Zaborski’s, Kingston Habitat, Newburgh United House Wrecking, CT
