What type of floors to put in room - parquet all over rest of house
We have one room that has vinyl over plywood. We want to put down new wood floors, but not too expensive. Note we have to sand all floors of the house, so this wood could potentially also be sanded. We want the look of the floor to be somewhat congruent with the period of the house with its 1870s parquet floors. But on a super tight budget, – Can you buy pine planks and and finish them? – Should we buy tongue and groove bits of already finished wood? – Where would you go to get reasonably priced wood? Have to buy this weekend. Thanks for your tips!

Hope you’re not planning to purchase and install all on the same weekend. Hardwood needs to acclimate to temperature and humidity of the room where they’re being installed. If not, boards can (and will) shrink, expand, buckle, etc.

Also, the guy I used has a lot of old reclaimed flooring. This might be the best solution for matching and should be pretty cost efficient. Jose 917-355-7977

You can get oak 3″ plank flooring to match the color and finish of your other floors. To get the best match, use unfinished oak and have it stained to match. For durability and price, go to Lumber Liquidators and see if you can get an acceptable looking prefinished oak.
