Western Electric box w/ wires on the back of our house?

We’re in the process of a major renovation that includes an extension to the back of our townhouse. Unfortunately there is a Western Electric box with wires running to the neighbors on both sides of us. We need to move the box and wires to complete the work but don’t know who to contact. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance

It seems you have a telephone junction box. If the copper wires are not replaced already by fiber optics, or other copper wires, your neighbors will be effected if/when you cut them. Is it not on your property? Does Verizon come and go over your garden fence to maintain Ma Bell’s old box with your permission? Be firm and don’t be patient with them. Expect the phone company’s very old records to be full of inaccuracies. If what they tell you seems wrong, it probably is. There must be other junction boxes on other houses or on poles nearby. Your neighbor’s lines can be rerouted, if the current location is no longer convenient for you. Consider how your neighbors may be using the wires: ATM machines, fax lines in local businesses, take-out food orders, other commercial activities. I may be over reacting, but I had this problem, and it took a huge effort.
