Weil Mclain GV90+4 boiler

I’m putting in 3 water heater and 2 boiler for a three family house. The chimney have 1 hole approx 8 inches for ventilation for all the appliances. I’m installing a high efficiency Weil Mclain GV90+4 and on the manual it say that it can’t share the vent pipe with other appliances. My question is that can i run the 3″ PVC vent/air pipe on the back of the house straight up to the top of the house????

If you run PVC in the chimney, you must support it every 5 feet. Permit for boiler installation must be obtained because you will need gas pipe modified. You cannot do direct vented boiler in 3 family house under LAA. PE must prepare and file plans with DOB. Installer must have solid experience in installation of those boilers.

white pvcc is being phased out as a venting material as of the first of the year…if you are going to be inspeted by the boiler division, go for cpvc at a minimum

So, then how are you going to vent the water heaters? You probably don’t need to run the fresh air intake pipe up to the roof. You ought to see if you can terminate that one at ground level above the snow line, or take room air somehow.

Thanks for the input. My existing chimney is blocked (6″ diameter), but i can unblock it and run the vent pipe through there. As for the 3″ PVC air intake pipe, i like to run it along the exterior wall of the house.. Would i still an enclosure for the air intake?

You would need to run it up in a fire rated enclosure. That would require a permit.

The codes on venting this stuff can be overwhelming to the uninitiated. The answer to your question is “yes” but you can only have up to 24 inches exposed. The rest has to be run in an enclosure from the sidewall penetration/base to the roof. In other words, you need to create a chase for the vent pipe. It can’t be outside.
