Water main replacement

Has anyone replaced their water main recently? If so, can you recommend the company you worked with?

There are only a limited number of “plumbers” that can actually get permits from the City to work on water mains, so be sure that you are not hiring someone that is subbing it to one of the few and of course charging you the mark up. Filiolia, Harris, etc six of one half a dozen of the other. But just because someone on this site states $3,500 or whatever, the price is really dependent on how far the water maine is to the the main in the street, if you are on the opposite side, it can be double what someone across the street paid.

didn’t care for harris either, but i realize that this is a cutthroat and competitive low margin business. fwiw they may (read: will) make a huge mess inside with a mud jack and if your basement is finished you will need to contract that separately. So factor that in. Also, Had to re-do their concrete patch job in the front. With hydrants on my side of the street i think it was 3500 ish. So the price was commensurate and i guess i shouldn’t complain too much. I’d hire the really expensive guy if i had to do it again. Alex Figliolia si the name i believe.

I had to pay another contractor to replace the water main that Mainman installed which leaked due to their faulty work which they would not make good on. So yes, I paid twice to have my water main replaced. I would never recommend them.

Also what work did you have done/what costs were involved? Our coop is looking into replacing the main that connects to our fire sprinkler but have been saving up to get this done as understand its going to be 10-15k.
