Under the counter water filtration systems

Any suggestions on what we should install? We hear good things about Aquasana but not sure about the difference between the various brands.

We have the same one as presidentstps, above, installed under a bar sink. There are five of us and we get all our drinking water from that tap. The flow is usually fine–it begins to run a bit more slowly when the filter starts to go. You can really go down a rabbit hole with water filtration systems, and (because I’m lazy) I liked that this one seemed both fairly broad and basic. We’ve been happy with it.

I got this one for under the sink. It was easy to install, works great, and is pretty much full-flow. Cartridges just pop in and out. I didn’t think a whole-house filter nor reverse osmosis was worth it. http://www.amazon.com/3M-Full-Flow-3MFF100/dp/B0087E6DHU Here’s the performance data: http://www.3mwater.com/media/catalog/product/pdfs/3MFF100%20Performance%20Data%20Sheet.pdf

The Filtrete system available on Amazon works well for me. Not expensive – easy to install and change filters – and I have s subscription set up so they send me a new filter every 6 months. I’ve tried a few systems and this is the easiest of them for me.

I use a whole-house filter which helps extend the lives of water heater, ice maker, etc. Replacement carts are $15\. I do inevitably spill water when doing the filter change – not a lot but enough that it would be a drag under a sink.

I reviewed your prior posts, questions from a first timer. It seems like the people you are working with are not advising you well, or you don’t trust them. Keep it practical. In this case, what are you trying to remove from your water with a filter? Dirt? Particles? Or, traces of carbon compounds? Chlorine? Something else? There are lots of cartridges which filter different things or many things. The finer the filter, and the more stuff it captures, the faster you will need to change cartridges, or you will need bigger cartridges. How easy will it be for you to remove the old cartridge, and replace it with a new one? You know, without spilling a lot of water on the floor of your sink cabinet. Do you have a cut off valve handy to shut the water off, which enters the filter? Is there room under the filter to put a baking pan, to catch the water before it spills? I recommend a major brand from a plumbing supplier, or a big chain store, so you will always be able to find cartridges. I don’t know if that is available in the organic grocery or food coop. One time a customer presented one of those to me. It did the same job as others, but used a smaller cartridge and had an expensive stainless steel housing. It was more difficult. I think with extra filters you should pay about 30-40 bucks at a big box store. Filtering water should end problems, not create new ones.
